The first step is to gather the materials. Below is a list of tools and materials you will need during the first DIY.

  • Mix of warm water and soap
  • Scrubber(or other scrubbing tools such as the fingernails)
  • Towel Jar(old or bought)
  • Good looking – strings (fitting in color)
    • 1x wide(about 30 cm)
    • 1x thin(about 40 cm)
  • White nail polish
  • White acrylic paint(optional)
  • Tip-Ex
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick(sticks well)
  • Pencil
  • Cardboard paper
  • Thin (patterned-optional) paper

Decoration Jar - Clean the Jar and the Lid

IMG_20170408_152106.jpg

The first step is to clean the jar and also the lid. On old jars there might be writing labels of the past content and on new jars might be the price ticket glued on. To remove these labels,

  1. Use a mix of warm water and soap to scrub the label off with the help of a tool (such as a scrubber or the fingernails - if it is only a small label)
  2. Rinse the jar and dry it with a towel.

Decoration Jar - Colour the Lid

The next step is to colour the lid with a white colour(or a colour of your choice). For this step I found my acrylic paint to be too dark so I did not use it but I applied tip-ex and the nail polish evenly.

  1. Apply tip-ex to smooth the surface
  2. Let the lid dry
  3. Apply acrylic paint(optional)
  4. Let it dry
  5. Use the nail polish to give the lid a shine
  6. Let it dry

Decoration Jar - Create a Label

In order to create a small label for the jar, follow the following steps:

  1. Draw the outline on the cardboard paper
  2. Write a text on the thin, patterned(optional) paper
  3. Draw a smaller outline on the thin paper
  4. Cut the outlines and if necessary trim pieces further until reached the wished shape and size
  5. Glue both papers together
  6. Punch a hole in the front of the label

Decoration Jar - Put the Ribbon

As a decoration, you need 1 thin string, 1 thick ribbon, scissors and glue. Follow the steps below:

  1. Glue the thick ribbon onto the upper part of the lid like shown in the picture above
  2. Place and glue the ribbon tight under the lid so it will not fall off
  3. Lay the string over and in the middle of the thick ribbon like shown in the pictures above
  4. After placing it a few times over the thicker ribbon, thread the label onto one side of the string
  5. Then make a bow with the rest of the string and cut if too long
  6. Adjust the label

Now the jar is finished and you can put everything inside you wish for. Above are some examples of what you could put in the jar.

Pinboard - Gather Materials

  • Pins(depends on usage amount)
  • Plastic foil(one sheet)
  • Line Paper(one A5 paper)
  • Scissors
  • Tape

IMG_20170427_183059.jpg

The next step is to create the To-Do-List. For this step you have to follow the following instructions:

  1. Cut a A4 paper piece in half or use a A5 paper
  2. Write “To-Do-List” or something else onto the paper
  3. Write a number list
  4. Decorate the writing with shapes, drawings, coloured glue
  5. Use the washi tape/coloured tape to tape the border of the to do list
  6. Cut superfluous tape or paper

Pinboard - Giftcard Holder

IMG_20170427_184753.jpg

The next step is to create a gift card holder. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Outline a rectangular shape(1cm bigger than normal gift card size) on a plastic foil piece
  2. Repeat step 1
  3. Cut out the two outlines
  4. Place a gift card between the plastic foil pieces
  5. Tape the edges of the plastic foil to the back of it leaving one side open
  6. Cut opening if necessary

Pinboard - Pin It

In order to make an organised pinboard, follow the steps below:

  1. Use the string and make a tight knot onto a pin
  2. Measure and cut the length needed to create a string line like shown above
  3. Make another tight knot on another pin with the other end of the string
  4. Pin the pins onto the pinboard
  5. Use more pins to lead the string through the pinboard
  6. Pin the gift card holder from the inside outward onto the pinboard so the taped side is on the pinboard
  7. You can tape pictures, notes and chains onto the string

Pinboard - Use It
