In this part we are going to model a simple armchair and sofa using SelfCAD. First of all I found an existing armchair to what the ergonomic measurements of this type of furniture are. My sample armchair has the parameters:
- width: 74 cm
- depth: 74 cm
- height: 70 cm
- seat width: 54 cm
- seat depth: 50 cm
- seat height: 42 cm

Add a Cube to the Scene

Add a cube to the scene and set its parameters:
- width: 74
- height: 70
- depth: 74
- width segment: 3
- height segment: 2
- depth segment: 2

Move Edge Loop

Choose Edge Selection Mode, open the Selection Settings and turn on Loop Selection. You can select the whole loop by selecting two neighboring edges. Use this knowledge to select the edge loops that divide width segments.

Then, use Scale to enlarge the selection in the X dimension to 54 units.

Change the Horizontal Edge Loop Height

Screenshot_36.png

Select the horizontal edge loop and move it to a height of 27 units. Why 27? Because we want to model a 15 cm high seat, which upper surface should be at a height of 42 cm.

42 cm - 15 cm = 27 cm

Move the Last Edge Loop

Screenshot_37.png

Select the last edge loop, between two depth segments, and move it to -28 in the Z dimension.

Model the Shape of Armchair

Select the biggest upper face and use Extrusion. Set its amount to -43 (70cm - 43cm = 27cm)

Round Edges

Select all convex edges (marked as green) and use Fillet (M+F). Selected edges should be rounded now. Set the best values of intensity and level. Intensity says how far from the original edge will be the farthest new edge. I think intensity 3 and level 5 look the best here.

Create a Seat

Add a new cube to the scene. Set its width to 54, height to 15 and depth to 65. The cube should have only one segment in each dimension. Move the object higher to create a seat. With the whole object selected use Fillet again to round all edges.

Create Backrest

Screenshot_50.png

Model a backrest the same way as the seat. Add a cube with width 54, height 35 and depth 15, then move it where the backrest should be. Finally, round all its edges.

Finish the Backrest

Select the backrest and rotate it 15 degrees around the X-axis. After that, move it so that it doesn't intersect with the armchair.

Sofa

Screenshot_57.png

Our armchair is ready, so now we can model a sofa.

Copy the armchair and move it a little bit. Use Cube Selection to select the right side of the model. Move the selection 108 units right by adding 108 to its X coordinate.

Copy Seat and Backrest

Screenshot_58.png

Select the seat and the backrest and open Copy Offsets (T+O) tool. Copy the objects twice with movement 54 in the X direction.

Prepare Both Objects for Printing

As you remember, to print our models on a scale of 1:50 we need to make it 5 times smaller. Group all 3 armchair objects, then all 7 sofa objects. Use Scale to make both groups 5 times smaller.

Great! We can print a sofa and two armchairs for our house.

Now, let's model a table and chairs.
