3D Model House Tutorial

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to model a house using 3ds Max and the tools it provides.

Step 1: Create the Floor Plan

This is the easiest step as it is just planning out and placing the walls, floor, windows, and doors. this can be done by simply using the menu on the right to place different objects like cubes and spheres.

When you add your doors remember to make them open the right way (most likely into the nearest wall or out of the way).

Step 2: Planning Furniture

In this step you will be planning out where you will place furniture. You wont create the furniture but instead, add a place holder block to where you will add the furniture. like step 1, this wont take long as there is no details to add.

Remember, you can still mold the walls to fit your needs. or maybe change your floor plan altogether.

Step 3: Adding the Real Details

This step will take the longest. You will be molding the furniture with the various tools 3ds max has to offer. like the Boolean tools, scaling tools, linking tools, and subtraction tools.

You need to make sure to leave all different pieces of furniture separate if they will have different colors and textures, like a cabinet and its handle.

Step 4: Adding the Textures

This step is the final step to this grueling task. adding the textures to the various walls, floors, and pieces of furniture. this can be done with the button on the top right of the tool bar, you can spawn various different maps but we will only need "physical material".

Click on "choose preset" above the picture and you will be presented with a variety of different materials you can apply to the 3 models you made previously.

You Should Be All Finished!

Obviously there can be many different steps to modeling a house, but these are the main steps you will have to take to get the end product. Good Luck Modeling!
