3D Origami Wall Art | Triangle Pixel Art

This Instructable will show how to fold 3D origami triangle pixels and construct stunning works of art with them. I will show how to make a geometric wall art piece (like the first image), but also explain how you can create your own designs.

The first image depicts my original design, which I will explain how to make. The second image is of my first attempt at 3D origami art. It is based on someone else’s design.

Do a rough sketch of what you want your final design to look like. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just include the colors and basic shape. Above is the sketch I drew for my geometric design.

For my geometric wall art, you will need:
1. 46 paper squares. I used three-inch origami paper - 12 sheets black, 12 dark blue, 12 light blue, and 10 white.
2. Tape or glue (optional, but it will prevent your project from falling apart)
3. Lots of time (I needed about 2 hours, but I worked fairly quickly)

If you are making your own design, look at your drawing from Step 2 to determine how much paper you need, and what colors.

Here is how to fold the pyramid pixels:

1. Fold the square of paper in half both ways, edge to edge. Unfold.

2. Fold all corners to the center. Unfold. Turn the paper over.

3. Start folding on the diagonal, but stop at the halfway point. Unfold. Turn over.

4. Fold on the diagonal crease again, and using two of the straight creases, fold the flap inward.

5. Fold the top of the triangular flap downward on a pre-existing crease. Fold the flap over.

6. Fold the three remaining flaps into the pyramid.

To put together two pixels:
1. Unfold one inner flap from each pixel.
2. Hold the flaps together. Fold down the left edge. Fold down the right edge to meet the left.
3. Fold down the newly created triangular flap.
4. Use a bit of tape or glue to secure the flap (optional, but highly recommended)
5. Turn over.

If you are creating my design, refer to my sketch and final project. If you are using your own, refer to your sketch from step 2.

Assemble your pixels to look like the sketch. Start at one edge or corner and keep adding pixels until the design is complete.

You are now done with your wall art. Origami wall art is a cheap, easy, and fun way to add flair to a blank wall.
