3D Printed Bookmark

I occasionally will read a novel and need a bookmark, but I have had yet to find a sturdy, stylish, and reusable one. So I took it upon myself to make one. I created a sleek, slim, and stylish bookmark using the 3D modeling program Google Sketchup. I will be printing the bookmark using Makerbot Desktop.

Download Google SketchUp

In order to create a 3D printed bookmark, you will need to download a 3D modeling program. You will also, of course, need a 3D printer. I personally like to use Google SketchUp, but you can use whatever program you'd like to.

Make a Rectangle

Make a 6 inch tall and 2 inch wide rectangle. After this, you will want to make it 3/16 of an inch thick. If you make it to thin, it will not print correctly, causing you to do multiple trials.

Design Your Bookmark

You can design your bookmark however you’d like. I put 3 2x2⅙ squares along the center of the bookmark so it wouldn’t use as much plastic in the 3D printer. I also labeled it “Bookmark” by using the 3D text tool. If you want to see other possible designs, you can check out the Google SketchUp Warehouse.
