Hey everyone!

So as a school assignment we need to combine a classic chair with 3d printed connections.

In this instructable you'll find how you can make the rotating part for the ball chair.

Step 1: Find a Connection / Chair

The first step is to deceide what connection you want to 3D print.

The pictures stated above are inspirational images from Pinterest.

As connection we took a 'pin - hole' connection to remake the famous ball chair.

Step 2: Draw Your Connection in 3D Software.

Once you deceided on the connection, you can start drawing.

Deceide on the mesurements and keep tolerances in mind.

The female part of the foot is 0.2mm bigger than it should be. While the male part is at least 0.2mm smaller than it should be. This makes the piece movable once put together. And also keeps the crimp in mind that happends when a 3D print is cooling down.

The piece like we drew it here is not made to be taken apart agai. If you want that, dont forget a champfer on the edge of the male part (see picture)

Convert the file to an .stl file.

Step 3: 3D Print Your Piece

Print out your design and take away any support that might have been printed.

Step 4: Finishing Touch

Step 1: Find all the tools and materials that you need. (see picture)

- sandingpaper (or tool)
- paint
- spray putty
- tape
- paper towel
- safety tools (glasses, mouth mask...)
- brush
-...

Step 2: Sand the 3D prints

As a 3D print sometimes has big imperfections, we will already sand these down by hand and with the (dremel) sander. Once the surface feels soft and a lot of 3D print layers are gone, we move on to the next step.

We start with a rough grain and go smaller and smaller.

Step 3: putty

To have a perfect finishing touch, we use spray putty to fill up all the small little holes in the 3D print.
Before we start spraying putty on our objects, we first de-dust them.

Step 4: sanding - again.

After using the spray putty we have to sand the objects again so that all the smallest imperfections are gone. Make sure to use sanding paper with a small grain so that you don't make scratches.

Step 5: Primer and paint.

After the sanding we can put on our primer. That's a base layer for the paint. After whick we add the paint.

If you use spray paint, make sure that you are in a well ventilated room and that you keep enough distance form the object.

Step 6: Assemble everything.

Step 5: Admire Your Project
