3D Printed Earth Lamp

For this project I used created a cool decoration. With a 3D printer and some filament this is a cheap, simple accessory to add to their work desk, as an addition to your home, or you can even hang it up as a nice lamp with a couple more materials.

Materials

For this ornament I bought an LED light (and batteries). I bought the LED light and batteries for $2 together. Also very important is filament for the 3D printer. I need filament for the printing process. The two types of filament that could be used in the making of this lamp. PLA and ABS are two types of filament for 3D printing. I chose a dark blue ABS for this project but if you use PLA I'm sure the result wouldn't change much.

Tools

All you need is a 3D printer and some pliers. I used the UP! mini 3D printer. I needed the pliers to take care of the support on the model.

I went online and found a template for a globe, and modified it to look the way I desired. Here's a link to the design I created if you want to print it out for yourself!

Globe support (Originaly 10 min)

After the printing finished there was a lot of support. Since the shape was a sphere there was TONS to take off. I have linked a video of me using pliers to take the support off.

Final!

Once I finally got all of the support off I took my led light and glued it to the bottom of my printed model. It looked great, and I would recommend it for any table desk.
