3D Printed Gonk Droid Trashbox With Tinkercad

If you own a 3D printer than you have probably been irritated when a print fails and you then have tons of little pieces of plastic everywhere. Well I decided I wanted to make a Star Wars droid inspired mini trash can to make cleaning up easier. Here is how I did it.

Supplies

Supplies: *3D printer * PLA, ABS, or PETG plastic *Tinkercad account

Create a New Design in Tinkercad

Tinkercad is a free software that is my go to for creating 3d models to print. It is super easy to use but you can still create complex objects with it. If you have a 3d printer than you should check it out.

Create a Basic Shape of a Gonk Droid

This step is pretty straitforward. What I did is got 2 squares sized them, cut the sides down a little bit, smoothed the edges, conected them together, and then made the part that is in the middle of the droid but you can add on to it or skip the smoothing depending on how much detail you want it to have. Next make legs and feet while making sure they are big enough to support the body. Finaly add holes slighty bigger than the legs on the feet and body so everything fits together.

Hollow It Out and Make a Hole for the Trash to Go Into

The way I hollowed it out is by just duplicating it, then sizing all the diminsions down by a certain number and finaly grouping it all together. On the front make a hole the size you want and put it at the top. This is where the trash will go into the box.

Add Details

Look at some pictures of a gonk droid as referance and add as many datails as you like. The more details the more time it will take to print but the better the results will be.

Split Into Smaller Parts (If Needed)

How I'm going to split is by opening a software called meshmixer and splitting the body into 2 parts. The legs and feet will not need to be split since they can fit on my printer (ender 3 v2).

Print Off the Parts!

You're work is almost done! After the parts are prepared in a slicer you can print them off and take a break. (If ABS I usually put gluestick on the print bed for better adheasion. If it cracks or still comes off the bed getting a enclosure or bltouch to help).

Assemble the Peices

After you have all the peices ready and post processed (if needed) then you can simply use hot glue to put all the peices together. Make sure the feet are aligned so it can stand on it's own.

You're Work Is Done

Now that you have glued everything together the trashbox is done. Now you can use it to clean up the trash left over after 3d printing.
