3D Printed Marker Holder

Tired of not having a strong and reliable marker holder, that can also hold your calculator and maybe your ruler? or maybe being tired of having markers all over the place? Well, here is a nice and sturdy marker holder, that is easy to print in almost any 3D printer.

Supplies

  • 3D Printer ( at least 150X150x!50mm bed)
  • PLA for the printer
  • Painters Tape
  • Either a driller or a rotary tool
  • Superglue
  • 4 1lb Magnets
  • Hammer and Nail (Optional)

Print the Marker Holder

Below is the .STL file to print the marker holder, I have also attached the drawings of the design I made in case someone wants to make changes to the design.

This was printed in a Tronxy X1 with the following settings.

  • Layer Height- .2mm
  • Wall Thickness- 1.5mm
  • Infill Density- 10% (Grid Pattern)
  • Temperature- 195 C
  • Print Speed- 40mm/s
  • Retraction Speed- 40mm/s
  • Cooling- 5%
  • No Supports

Drill the Holes for the Markers

1. Before drilling holes on the marker holder make sure that your print have rested for at least a day or 2. This is very important because the material is still warm after the print is done.

2. Since there are many different types of markers out there, you would have to drill the holes according to yours. mine were .36in and I have 6 of them.

3. I use painters tape to guide me with the placement of the holes. I drilled a small hole with a drill bit first. Then I used the rotary tool to make the holes bigger to the point that I had to push in the markers. I did this to make sure the markers were tight.

OPTIONAL

I put a small nail to hold a ruler. Again make sure that the print have settle for a day or 2 before doing any alterations to it.

Just like the previous step, let the print cool down before doing this. I used 4 1lb magnets ($2.75 for 6).

I added super glue to one side of the magnet so it would adhered to the plastic. Make sure to put the glue on the right pole (or side) of the magnet.

There's no need to use all 4 magnets, I did this to make the marker holder hold a greater weight, but 2 magnets will be enough.

If only using 2 magnets make sure to have one in the top and one in the bottom. This will ensure that the holder doesn't move no matter where is place in the whiteboard.
