3D Printed Racecar With DIY Wheels

This design allows children to be distracted and have fun playing or making it. I embarked on this project because I wanted to do something simple that others could do as well; in order to do this I used Fusion 360 to make my design then 3D printed it. However one can not print the wheels of the car and this was found out due to the car not moving at all with the wheels when I 3D printed it.

The body of the car has two small holes where the wheels should be, so that the wheels can be connected with a skewer going through the hole, which then allows the car to move. Yet with that the car does not run smoothly so rubber bands should be hot glued to the back wheels in order for the car to move smoothly.

There were a few different approaches to make the care move, but I wanted to do something simple that others could do easily. It also lasts longer because it doesn't need batteries or anything; all that it needs is for someone to move it. It’s like a toy car that somebody can play with or just move when they're bored. This design can allow kids to learn and have fun like I did doing this design, since building it and designing it was fun to do.

  1. 3D Printer: Get the body of the car printed
  2. Red and grey color paint: For the car to have more color
  3. Water bottle caps: Let the car be able to move
  4. Skewers: Connect the wheels together
  5. Thick rubber band: Allows the car to run smoothly
  6. Autodesk Fusion 360: Create the design of the car to print
  7. Flash Drive: Able to print and save design more easily
  8. Needle: to make hole in water bottle cap
  9. Scissors: Cut rubber bands
  10. Lap top
  11. Fusion 360: an app
  12. Flash Print: an app

Creating Design

Step 1: Create design of Race Car in Autodesk Fusion 360, but once done extrude the wheels inward creating a hole between the wheels, then instead of saving export to your desktop

Materials

Gather all supplies you’ll need in order to start creating the design

Download Flashprint

If you do not have the app Flashprint on your desktop then download it.

Exporting

Then export the 3D design as a STL file

Preparing to Print

After Download the file into the FlashPrint 5 app and choose the type of machine you would like to print on, and choose how detailed you would like the design to be printed.

Printing

Press print and just wait for how long it’ll take to print

Creating the Wheels

Grab a skewer and cut 2 inches off do this twice then create a hole in the middle of the water bottle cap using a needle, do that to all 4 water bottle caps

Connecting the Wheels

Grab your water bottle caps and the 2 inch skewers then put it through the hole through the print then grab two water bottle caps connected then repeat for the other one. Once both set of wheels are connected hot glue to skewers to the cap to ensure that it does not move at all.

Enhancing the Wheels

Grab the thick rubber band, and see how much the wheels is going to use, then began to hot glue the rubber band around the wheel, repeat for all the wheels

Painting
