3D Wall Painting

A lightweight 3D wall art decoration of flowers and leaves that can be thrown up by anybody from cheap supplies quickly.

• Napkin (kitchen and/or normal)
• White gesso
• Clay (air drying)
• Acrylic paint

• Silicone molds

Grab a simple cardboard box and cut the sides so that you should have at least two big ones, but of course you can have any layer.

Measure the sides to have the required size, I selected 18x50cm.

Using white glue simply just put together the same sized cardboard sheets.

With a heavy book on the top leave it to dry.

To have some real feel structure at the surface use the napkin and diluted glue.

Mix white glue and water in 1 to 1 rate in a small bowl and take a brush.

Cut the napkin to smaller parts and start to glue them to the cardboard with overlaps on each piece.

Don't be afraid if it gets creases that is exactly the goal!

Wait for dry completely before the next step.

After the diluted glue dried on the box you can coat with one layer of white gesso on the whole surface.

Wait again for the full dry.

To color up the background pour some white and blue paint and with a brush just color the boards.

To have some gradient you can use wide brush moves and mix the colors in different ratio.

For the extra sparkling effect then silver-blue metallic paint put up with dry brush technique roughly here and there.

Take some napkin and separate the layers and then cut to long slices with 2cm width.

Dip a kitchen towel in water and then put one slice on the top of it to get it wet and then start to roll it to make the stem structure. You'll practice this step a bit as if the slice gets too wet or not wet enough you can easily fail here, but don't be afraid you can master it quickly. If you prefer you can use clay for the stem too.

When the stem parts are fully dried you can paint them if you want different color.

After the paint got dried glue the stems in a winding format on the cardboard with white glue.

Get the clay and the molds and create as many flowers and leaves as many you want.

Put the air drying clay in the mold and right after that you can remove it and I recommend to put it on the stem (but do not press it) and let it dry. This will help later to have them a back that fits better to the existing structure.

Put some green on the leaves and the mandarin on the flowers.

Put some dots on the flowers (dark-brown) with a "pointer brush" or you can use simply a wooden toothpick.

For the extra shine metallic gold and green-metal is put to the flowers and leaves, use dry brush technique here.

With hot or white glue fasten the flowers and leaves.

When it is dried put some varnish on it to make it more durable.

Your art is ready!
