This Instructable will show you how I model and print these modular boxes that are compatible with any pegboard. The medium sized ones only take about one hour thirty minutes to print, take only 12 grams of filament, and can hold quite a lot of weight. You can download the files here on Thingiverse or in step #4.

Supplies

Tinkercad if you want to model it.

A 3d printer with filament

Here are the files if you would like to 3d print them yourself.

Model the Box in Tinkercad

Place a normal box and scale it to 50 by 71.11 by 35 mm. Then place a "hole" box and scale it to make the walls .8 mm thick ( 69.51, 48.4). Then raise it .8mm off the work plane for the bottom. After you finish, group them together.

Make the Pipes That Go in the Pegboard

First find the "bent pipe" tool in the "featured shapes" category. Then copy the settings in the above picture. After that, switch the grid units to inches and duplicate the pipe and move it 2 inches apart from the first. Then place them so they are just connected to the box but not sticking through.

3d Print Them Out

The settings for printing are as follows,

  • Layer height is 0.2 mm
  • set perimeters to 2
  • turn supports on
  • set infill to 10%
  • set print speed to 80mm/s
  • print at your desired PLA print temperature
  • printing a full set of them (1 small 1 medium 1 large) takes about four and a half hours.

If all is done correctly, then the walls of the box should consist of 2 perimeters and there should be supports just under the prongs that go into the pegboard.

Here are the files if you would like to 3d print them yourself but please do not try to sell them or manufacture.

Print out more and make them useful! This systems modularity and compatibility allows it to be configured in an infinite amount of ways. Thanks for reading all the way to the end! =)
