5 Layer Tootie Fruity Cake

20240311_035325.jpg

This cake was and continues to be a staple in my grandmothers house, especially during the holidays. Named by one of her 5 grandchildren "tootie fruity cake in a bowl" , it is also great for summer time gatherings because it's cool fruity and delicious. It is a layer cake made with pudding, cool whip, fruits, and very easily adjusted to make one that fits your families favorites. Feel free to try different fruit options such as berries or a different flavor of cake. You can also add your own twist to the layers like nuts or chocolate chips for instance. This is my favorite sweet that my sweet grandmother made throughout my childhood that I now make for my own children.

Follow the instructions on your instant pudding package. For the large box you will need 3 cups of cold milk. I recommend using 2 1/2 cups of milk rather than the standard 3 cups. This will make the pudding thicker and more pie or cake filling consistency.

  • Add dry pudding mix into a bow of your choosing.
  • Add 2.5 cups of milk.
  • Whisk or use a mixer of your choosing until pudding is smooth.
  • Refrigerate for at least 5 minutes.

Cooling the Cake

It is very important that you let your cake cool completely. This specific cake is kept refrigerated.

Get Ready to Layer

Once your cake is cooled, choose a large bowl or container of your choosing and open your cans of crushed pineapples and cherry pie filling. Remove your pudding from the refrigerator and the cool whip. As this is a layered cake, you will want your ingredients for each layer out and ready to go. Add a spoon to each ingredient so that you can add the layers easily.

Spread your cool whip as the next layer. You should have two tubs of cool whip so if you want to use a little more than half, that's ok. Spread an even layer onto the pineapples.
