A Beginner's Guide to Bake an Awesome Cake
If you know baking and wish to make a nice, decent cake, this instructable can help you to achieve your aim. But if you do not know anything about baking but wish to bake a nice looking cake, then my friend, this is definitely what you need.
Below are the ingredients needed:
Chocolate cake mix + any other ingredients mentioned on the cake mix packet
Kitkat chocolate bars
Maltesers
dark chocolate
milk
icing sugar
unsalted butter
Vanilla extracts
Tools:
Microwave or oven
Whisk
knife
plats and bowls
Baking the Cake
I have chosen to use a chocolate cake mix but if you prefer some other flavor you can choose from a large variety which you can easily find at the supermarket. Depending on the type of cake mix you use, you need to check the ingredients needed at the back of the cake mix packet. Some require ingredients like eggs, oil or milk. Some are meant to be baked in an oven while others also offer the instructions on how to bake it in the microwave. Just follow the instructions as indicated at the back of the packet to bake your cake.
Slicing the Cake in Half
When your cake is ready and cooled, put it in a plat having a deep bottom. Then using another similar plat cover the cake. You would be surprised to see how easy it is to use a knife to cut the sponge cake in half flawlessly ;).
Prepare the Cream
Ingredients needed here are:
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 1/3 cups icing sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Liquid whole milk according to consistency desired.
Beat the butter with a whisk or stand mixer until it is smooth. Cut the dark chocolate into pieces in a bowl and put it in the microwave for about 1 minutes. When it is done remove it from the microwave and stir. Repeat heating at shorter intervals while stirring in between, until the chocolate is smooth enough as desired. In my cake the chocolate did not melted completely and therefore resulted in the tiny dark chocolate dots on the cake. Add the dark chocolate, icing sugar, vanilla extract and milk (according to the consistency desired) little by little to the smoothed butter and continue to mixing them until well combined.
Adding the Cream to the Cake
Add a thick layer of the cream on the first layer of the sponge cake and then cover it with the other half of the cake. Then using a long knife (I have used a bread knife) spread the cream all over the cake. Try to add an even layer, but it is fine if it is not very perfect as the kitkat chocolate bars will hide all the imperfections ;).
The Finishing Touch
Cut the kitkat bars in half and start placing them one after the other. When this is done take a beautiful ribbon and tied it around the cake so that the kitkat chocolate bars stays in place. Now add some maltesers chocolate around the edge of the cake.
Hope you liked this instructable and have got some confidence to bake your first cake and impress your friends and loved ones.
