A Sustainable House in Minecraft
Hi I'm Kiera and I built my home to be sustainable in the cold desert and I will tell you everything you need to know about biomes and why they are so important to the world and why I thought to do this project. I wanted to do this project because I wanted to tell people why they are so important and to preserve them. Here is the definition of biomes biomes are regions of the world with similar climate (weather, temperature) animals and plants you can also think of them as life zones. They are important to the world because they each have many unique forms of life. My house was built to be sustainable in the cold desert which has a winter temp. of -20 to -90 degrees F and a summer temp. of 30 degrees F and the different plants you can find are different types of mosses and lichens the animals you can find there are penguins, seals, whales, and seabirds.
Materials
To make it you will need
- Something you can play Minecraft on
In Minecraft you need to get
- Beds(optional)
- Beehives
- Bookshelves(optional)
- Carpet(optional)
- Chests(optional)
- Composter
- Farmland or Dirt
- Glass
- Oak fence
- Oak log
- Oak wood planks
- Oak wood stairs
- Oak trapdoors
- Ladder
- Snow
- Spruce Doors
- Torches
Finding a Good Spot
First of all when you go to start trying to find a good spot make sure you are in creative mode. If you're trying to find a good spot in the snow to build this house, but there isn't snow anywhere just mine away a few rows of whatever is there and replace it with snow. I put the fence to block animals and monsters from stepping on it.
Starting Your Foundation
I made it 30 blocks long, 30 blocks wide, and 21 blocks high. All you have to do is take the oak wood and make 4 towers of 30 blocks and connect them on the bottom and the top.
Walls, Floor, and Roof
When you are done connects the pillars to the base you can then fill in your walls, floor, and roof. I did half of mine so later you could see the bedroom.
Stairs and Floors 2 and 3
When you are done with the other steps you can put your stairs on and make your second and third floor.
Bedrooms and Closets
After you make the floors you can then make your bedrooms and add closets if you want.
Doors and Windows
After that you can then place your doors and windows.
Garden, Composter, Solar Panels, and Honey
On the roof you make a glass area then you put down your dirt or farmland. After that you can put down some composters. Then on the top of the glass area you can put down some black carpet to look like solar panels. In the back of your house make another glass area then put in some beehives.
Sustainable Aspects
Here are the sustainable aspects of my house and why they are considered sustainable
- The big window to use the lights less and to get more heat in.
- The beehives to make my own honey.
- The composter to make my own soil.
- The solar panels to use the sun for energy instead of electricity.
- The cool roof to reflect the sun's light instead of absorbing it.
- The garden so I can make my own food.
- The blinds to reflect solar energy and cut drafts
Conclusion
In the end what I learned was that different biomes require different types of sustainability like that a house that was made for the cold desert would probably not be best for the forest. Again the reason I did this is so that people are more educated on the different biomes and how we can preserve them. I think I could have improved the building materials. If you go try to build this or something similar it will take you a while.
