ALIEN ABDUCTION NITE LITE
If Mom likes novelty items, this is something you can make for her than you can't buy at the store - her very own Alien Abuduction Nite Lite with a removable flying (powered by crochet thread) space ship!
While Shaun the Sheep is larger than the ship and it doesn't seem like it would be possible for the UFO to abduct him, keep in mind it is alien advanced technology at work here.
All of the items to make this you can either get at dollar store or likely have lying around your house already.
I only spent $3 to make this lamp at Dollar Tree - $1 for the mini touch light, $1 for AAA batteries and $1 for the glass
My inspiration for this project was Heather of Dollar Store Crafts creation: http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/03/alien-lamp/comment-page-1/#comment-1241

Items Needed
Items needed:
For Spaceship:
Large Plastic Easter Egg
2 CDs
Mini touch light (I bought mine at the Dollar Tree)
3 AAA batteries*
Glue Gun and glue sticks
9001 Glue or other craft glue (to glue the CD's together)
Cardboard (I used the side off a 24 pack of Diet Coke)
Aluminum foil
Tin can or other object that is about 1/2 in around larger than the circumference of your plastic egg
Crochet thread (or other strong thread to string through the top of the UFO)
For Shaun the Sheep
Cotton (mine was from an asprin bottle, but you could use cotton balls)
Mini-plastic Easter Egg
Black and White acrylic paint
2 googly eyes
Red and white fabric paint
4 pen caps
Black Felt
Glue Gun and glue sticks
For the rest of the light:
Glass (this one is a plastic one from Dollar Tree is clear with green around the top that gives it an eerie glow).
Forest Gren Felt (for the grass)
Plastic lid (to glue the "grass" on to)
9001 glue or other strong, clear glue
12 oz can of soda
Pen
Scissors
*If lamp is to be left on overnight, I would suggest investing in rechargeable batteries.

Glue the Two CDs Together
Glue the two CDs together using 9001 or other craft glue (I tried using a glue gun on my first attempt and would not recommend it as it did not glue evenly and it was bumpy)
Trace Around Can on Cardboard
Use a can or other item that is slightly larger than the circumferance as the egg to make a circle on cardboard then cut it out. Then place the plastic egg in the center, draw a circle around that then cut it out.
Place Cardboard Circle Around the Top of the Egg
Place the circle of cardboard on the top of the egg and make the edge flush with the bottom of the top of the egg.
Make Hole in the Top of the Egg, Thread Crochet Thread Through It.
Use a thumbtack to make a hole in the top of the plastic egg. Thread a the crochet or other strong thread through the top through the opening and tie a knot and secure on the inside with a bit of glue.
Hot Glue Around the Circumference of the Egg to Secure the Cardboard
Then use a glue gun to secure the cardboard circle to the egg around the circumference.
Cover Egg and Cardboard With Aluminum Foil
Cover the top of the egg and cardboard with aluminum foil then poke a hole the top and thread it through the aluminum foil.
Glue the Bottom of the Cardboard to the CDs With a Hot Glue Gun.
Attach Mini Touch Light to Bottom of CDs
The mini touch light has a strip you can pull off to attach it to things - pull it of and secure it and you may want to use the hot glue gun or the 9001 or other craft glue to secure it to the CD's also (I used the 9001 glue).
If you need to change the batteries, you can unscrew the bottom of the touch light from the base
that is glued to the CDs.

To Make Shaun the Sheep
The body is a yellow plastic Easter egg that I painted white - this is just one layer - I used about 6 coats before it got to be white.
I then put it back together and glued a piece of cotton around the egg.

Cut Out Face and Ears, Hand Stitch, Stuff, Glue on Eyes, Paint on Nose and Mouth
His face is made out of two pieces of felt that I hand stitched and stuffed with small scraps, then glued on two googly eyes and painted the nostrils with white fabric paint and the mouth with red fabric paint.
Glue head to the egg.
Glue head to the egg.
Paint the Legs and Make the Tail, Then Glue Them Onto the Body
Snap or cut off the skinny part of the pen caps and paint the caps of the pens black, then use a hot glue gun to glue the legs to the cotton so he will stand up.
Make his tail by taking a small square of black felt, roll it up and use the glue gun to glue the edge down and then glue his tail to his bottom.

Place Batteries in the Mini Touch Light
Open up the mini touch light an put the batteries in seen below and then replace cover.
Trim the Edge Off the Outside of the Covering Off of the Mini-touch Light.
Apply Glue to Bottom of the Glass
Apply glue to the bottom of the glass then place the plastic off of the mini touch light upside down.
Place Soda Can on Top to Weight Down the Plastic to the Glass
Put a 12 oz can of soda or other soft drink on inside the top off the mini-touch light and allow the glue to dry.
Trace Around Lid on Felt
Put the lid on the felt and use a pen to trace around the circumference, then cut out the felt where you traced.
Place Glass Over Animal, Set Spaceship on Top of Glass
Place the glass over the top of them and put the spaceship inside the the top off of the mini-touch light and you have yourself an Alien Abduction Nite Lite!
Place Shaun the Sheep or Other Animal in the Center on the Felt
Place Shaun or whatever critter that is to be considered for abduction in the center of the lid.
Glue Felt to Inside of Lid
Turn the lid upside down, apply glue and then place the felt in the center and smooth it down.
