Acetate Face Mask

Face masks are virtually impossible to find amid the coronavirus pandemic at this moment.

Nowadays you can find in social networks a lot of proposals to build face masks. This project is another proposal to build a reusable face mask to prevent getting sick. The majority of the proposals use a 3D printer, but there are many people haven´t got one, so I share with you a proposal built without using one.

Below you will find three designs: the first design without a visor, the second one with a visor that will allow to wear glasses and the third design with visor and a rubber band if you don´t have got a cycling helmet.

I know the face masks designed are not cool but they are effective and if you build something like these, a piece of plastic will cover your face to prevent getting sick.

• Cycling helmet
• Acetate sheets (ink printers)
• Adhesive velcro strips
• Black permanent marker pen
• Scissors

In some cycling helmets you can extract the complete headring as you can see in the first image. It belongs to my cycling helmet.

In others cycling helmets as you can see in the second image the headring is not close but I think it would be easy to close using a piece of cloth.

One of the advantage to use headring cycling helmet is you can adjust it using the ratchet.

Cut two velcro strips and paste it in the headring helmet and in the acetate sheet

Cut the acetate sheet as you want and paint the border using a permanent black marker pen

Finally paste the sheet to the headring helmet.

One of the advantage of this face mask is you can easily replace the acetate sheet just removing the old one and paste a new sheet using the velcro strips. Moreover you can adjust the mask using the ratchet.

Using a piece of fruit cardboard box (rigid enough) mark the visor using the headring helmet

Make a cut in the visor to insert the acetate sheet

Make three cuts in the visor and pass through it a cardboard strip to fix the visor to the headring helmet

After mounting the visor and the acetate sheet, paste a cardboard strip and the rubber band.
