An active stubby holder not only keeps your beer cold while been drank but actually makes it colder. The need for this is obvious to anyone who has had a beer on a hot summers day and noticed that it warms up halfway through drinking it. It also re-uses an old sock for its cover.

Supplies

Sealing bag

250 Millilitres of water

Empty beverage can

Rubber band

Reused hiking sock

Equipment

Thermal vacuum sealer

Scissors

Access to a Freezer

Flexi Cold Pack

As a proof of concept, a sports cold pack was wrapped around a beer and place in a bubble pack envelope. Over half an hour the beer didn't in increase in temperature as it was being consumed.

Sealing the Cool Pack

Make a cool pack using a vacuum sealer.
Seal a pouch 15cm long by 5 cm wide.
Add in 250 mills of water and seal the end in a vacuum sealer only using the seal function.
Wrap the pack around an empty beer can, secure with a rubber band and freeze in your freezer to shape around the can.

Drinking a Beer

The pack is removed from the freezer and the empty can replaced with a beer can from the fridge.
Insert both into an old hiking sock.
Enjoy a beer which actually gets colder as it's been drunk.

An active stubby holder can also be made from an empty wine bag and 'goon bag'

  1. Remove the tap from the empty wine bag using a table knife.
  2. Half fill with water.
  3. Wrap around an empty beer can and secure with a rubber band.
  4. Freeze overnight.

To use: replace the empty beverage can with a full one and wrap with a small towel.
