Adjustable Stilts
Stilts provide many joyful times for people of all ages!
The height of the stilts in this instructable may be adjusted so they can be short for beginners or much taller for more experienced individuals.
Materials
- straight grained, knot-free 2 x 4 x 8
- 2 x 6 x1 foot for foot rests
- screws
Building the Foot Rest
Cut the footrests so the grain runs diagonally through the foot rest.
The foot holder has a lip to help keep the foot in place.
Drill two 3/16” holes in each foot rest so they face slightly downward
Making the Stilt Shafts
Rip the 2x4 into 1 ¾ shafts.
Taper each shaft starting about 18” from the foot to the top, where the shaft should be 1” wide.
Round all the edges of the shaft using a router with a round over bit, leaving the bottom 18” square.
Putting the Foot Rests on the Shafts
Screw one foot rest onto one of the shafts and then repeat with the other foot. Be sure they are the same height from the ground!
Select #10 screws of appropriate length so they will go well into the shaft without going all the way through.
The stilts can be adjusted by simply undoing the foot rests and moving them up or down as you wish.
