Adjusting Ember's Homing and Jamming Sensors
HALP!!!1!!11k!!! My Ember's build platform just keeps spinning in circles until it says there's an error. I just want to 3D print army men with my best friends' faces on them.
Fear not! This Instructable will cease your dizziness, and get your Ember functioning correctly. You'll need a 2mm allan key and a No. 10 torx to take off the front panel (usually you can get away with using the 2mm allan key as the No. 10 torx). You can see how to remove the front panel in Step 2 of this Instructable

If after correcting your homing sensor, your Ember jams even when a build head and resin tray aren't in place (or it always has!) then your jamming sensor is also out of alignment, adjusting it is covered in step 3.
Adjust the Homing Sensor
The homing sensor sits on the left side of Ember. From the top you can see it as a small black circle, with the front panel off it looks like a black threaded rod hanging down from the middle plate. It is a reed switch which is just a thin ferromagnetic strip inside an evacuated tube that bends to open or close a switch when a magnet passes over it. The resin tray platform has magnets on its underside and if the sensor is positioned too far away from the magnets the reed switch wont close when the platform passes and there's no signal to tell Ember the tray is in the home position.
So all we have to do is loosen the jammed nuts and thread the sensor a little higher up, 2mm is a good starting point.
Check and Readjust
Now that we've raised the homing sensor we need to check if it's in the right place. If the resin tray platform goes too far counter clockwise such that the square hole in the platform and the projection window are no longer aligned (as in the first picture) the homing sensor needs to be lowered a bit. Just check and recheck until the platform homes correctly (the second picture). No more Ember circle dance!
Caveat: The resin tray platform has two magnets one for homing and one for jam detection the sensor will not know the difference between the two so make sure the platform is rotated far away from the homing sensor before checking if it will home correctly.
Adjusting the Jamming Sensor
The jamming sensor is also a reed switch. It is located on the right side of your Ember. With the front panel off, adjust the sensor by loosening the jammed nuts and raising the sensor until it is protruding 2mm from the middle plate. This height seems to work almost universally, but if you are getting a misaligned layer artifact in your print or you happen to notice some jams aren't being detected go ahead and lower the jamming sensor a small amount until the issue is resolved.
