Adorable Snowman Ornaments

These cute little snowmen only take a few minutes to make and make great ornaments for the Christmas tree, or as decorations to set around your house during the holidays.

Here's a list of what you'll need to get started:

" An small, clean sock (I'm using one my daughter outgrew, I think it's a child's size 5-8).
" A small piece of felt (for the scarf)
" Fine tipped markers (black and orange - I used Sharpies)
" White string
" Cotton balls or a small amount of quit batting
" Food coloring, fabric dye, ink, or some other dye suitable for coloring fabric (I used red food coloring). You could probably even use paint.

To start with, we need to color the open end of the sock with our dye. We need about the top 1/3 of the sock to be colored. You can either brush the dye on or dip the fabric. Dipping works better, but be sure you wring out all of the excess liquid so that it doesn't run and color the rest of the sock. If you dip, you might want to do slightly less than 1/3 of the sock's length to allow for any bleeding of the color. Keep in mind, it's the inside of the sock that will be visible, so that part needs to have the most vibrant colors. If you're brushing on the dye, just turn the sock inside out and brush the inside.

Set the sock aside and let it dry thoroughly. If you're making several ornaments, or plan to do this with a kid, then you can do this step ahead of time and allow the socks to dry overnight.

Next, take the cotton balls or quit batting and stuff it into the toe of the sock, until the sock is 1/3 filled. Pack the cotton/batting down firmly! Once you've done this. Take your string and wrap it around the sock several times at the top of the "snowball" we've just created and tie it.

Repeat this one more time to make a second snowball.

Now, take the top of the sock and fold it down so that it rests over the top of the second snowball to form the hat.

Now cut a strip of felt about a half inch wide and 5 inches long. Tie it around the snowman where the top and bottom balls meet to form the scarf.

Finally, simply draw on the eyes, nose, and some buttons using the markers.
