Amiga External Floppy Drive Case (3d Printed)

For our last instructable we repaired and amiga a500 and upgraded to make it useable with WHDLoad (just lol), Which we are proud to say was a featured instructable. During making this instructable we made an external floppy drive for the amiga and we put it in a temporary box, for this instructable we are going to 3d print an enclosure for the drive. The first problem we encounter was that the required size for the case was larger than thte print bed so we needed to cut the final model in half.

First of all we needed to measure the drive and the board and design the enclosure to accommodate everything, in the cad software we add a cube then set the size to match our measurements then used another cube to cut out the "drive and electronics bay" then we used another cube to make 2 parts to the lid. fnally we cut out "grooves" so it would all lock together then glue. see attached STL for case components

once the components have been printed three pieces need gluing together and the third just clips in place we take the 3 pieces that are red and green in the pictures, first of all we glued the 2 green pieces together in the middle with the tab to help secure the join then we glued the "amiga" part of the lid to glue int place in the grooves (as in pic 2). Finally we mounted the drive and the electronics in place and tested, we used 2 ties wraps around the cable to act as strain relief around the wire gap at the gap

The front half "amiga" panel should have a small .5mm lip the the left over flap can clip under closing the lid and completing the enclosure however it allows re-access if required as pressure should just keep it in place, We hope you find this useful and the case should pretty much fit any 3.5inch floppy drive.
