Apple Rose Tarts
a delicious treat that will impress your girl or guests
Gather Your Ingredients and Tools
1 cup flour
1/2 stick of butter
3 tbs water
2 tbs sugar
1 table spoon honey (or I use agave nectar)
Two large apples
cupcake pan and inserts
knife
rolling pin
cutting board
apple corer (optional)
mandolin (optional)
parchment paper (optional)
Core and Cut the Apple
Core the apple and cut in half. Or you can cut it in half and use the knife to remove the core section.
next slice a little end off so it rests evenly on the mandolin. Then slice into thin pieces.
Cook the Apples
in a sauce pan, add the water, sugar and honey/nectar. then add the apples. You can do this in reverse order if you want... it really doesn't matter.
cook over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes or until the apple slices become soft and bendable.
if you want to use more water you can.
Be sure not to over cook the apples.
When done, remove them from the pan and let cool
Dough
I prefer to use store bought pastry dough but I didn't have any so I had to make some from scratch.
you can use your own recipe or what ever you want.
Place the stick of butter in a bowl and cut up.
add about 4 tbs of the apple water from the pot.
sift in the flour
mix until the dough comes to gather and kneed.
divide in two.
Roll the Dough and Then Place and Roll the Apples
line the pan with cupcake wrappers.
roll out the dough until it is about 1/8 an inch thick.
slice into stips about 1/2 an inch wide and long enough for 5-6 apple slices
next place the apple slices overlapping on the strip
roll up the strip and place in the cupcake pan
Bake and Clean
preheat the oven to 350
bake the tarts for about 20 minutes or until dough is cooked.
while waiting, this is a perfect time to clean up.
when they are done, take them out to cool.
you can brush them with the rest of the apple water, dust them with powdered sugar and/or cinnamon... the possibilities are endless.
Enjoy.
