Hello World!!
I am making this Instructables on how to make arduino controlled dragon wings. XD
I planned on wearing these dressed as Smaug to 'The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug' premier but I didn't complete the entire outfit in time, but I will continue working on it and up date this page when I am done, and then where it to the final installment of The Hobbit!! XD

Materials

Structure materials

1)1/4 bolts x24

2)1/4 washers

3)nuts

4)lock washers

5)Hinges x2

6)wood(of course)

Measurments/cutting

I used a handsaw, scroll saw, and a table saw to do all my cutting. All of my cutting I did in my schools woodshop, with a second person in the room.

I realized I did not put in the length of F and E

F=18.2"
E=11.2"

Putting Together

first! drill thy holes for your bolts!

then after that follow the graph and put the pieces together.

put a washer between each piece including the bottom before the lock washer. then fit on the nut.

after you got that attach the wings to the hinges the same way.

when your done you should be able to pull on the tip of 'B' and your wing will expand out.

When you put it on the base board you need to put an extra block between the hinge and base so that the 'B' piece is not hitting anything.

I got the basic wing design from here http://cherylshipley.com/gallery_mech_inventions.html

Arduino Stuffs Starts Here! Servos

1) Standard size Servos x2 (I got these at my local hobby store "Hobby Town USA" you can find them on Sparkfun if not at a local store)

2)small gage wire

3)breadboard(for mock up)

4)perfboard(for final)

5)4volt battery pack for AA batteries(for the servos)

6)6 AA pack that attaches to the Arduino

7)project enclosure(can get at Radio Shack)

8)Arduino Uno(the brains of the operation!)

Wiring

I took the picture and servo code I used from herehttp://www.robotoid.com/appnotes/arduino-operating-two-servos.html
play with the code till the servos are timed to your liking.
use a breadboard for the mock up and then a perfboard for the soldering.

What You Should Have

the two blocks that were not in previous steps are there to keep the servos in place. I suggest finding servo mounts instead. I personally didn't have any handy.

I have a stall on mine at the moment but its easily fixed in my code and loosen some of the bolts so its not tighter than the opposite side.
putting some elastic on the underside of the wings will help them come back after the servos release.

Good Luck!
