Art Bot

Instructable 4.jpg

In this instructable you'll learn to make an Art Bot! It's a quick and easy way to build your own robot.

Materials

You need:

- a plastic cup

- foam tape

- two AAA batteries

- wide rubber band

- low-voltage DC motor (4 inches of wire on contacts)

- electrical tape

- 3 or 4 washable markers

- a cork

- a craft stick

- things to decorate with (googly eyes, paint, etc)

Step 1:

Instructable 3.jpg

Turn your cup upside down, so that the open end is against the table.

Put foam tape on the closed bottom of the cup

Step 2:

Stick the DC motor to the foam tape

Step 3:

Instructable 5.jpg

Tape the AAA batteries together end to end (make sure a positive end is touching a negative end).

Stick the batteries on the foam tape, next to the motor.

Step 4:

Wrap your rubber band around the batteries so it covers the terminals (the end of each battery). Make sure it's on tight.

Step 5:

Push a cork onto the shaft of the motor. Make sure it's off-center, this is what makes the motor shake and the robot move.(This picture features a foam paintbrush top because I was out of corks. But a cork will work best, so make sure you have one).

Tape a craft stick to the top of the cork to add more off-center weight.

Step 6:

Tape at least three markers to the rim of the cup so that the drawing tips rest on the table.

Step 7:

Decorate your robot!

Step 8:

Place your robot on a piece of paper. Tuck the wires from the motor under the rubber bands at the end of each battery.(Photo shows only how to attach wires under rubber band.

Enjoy!
