Automobile Window Screen
To make the automobile window screen, start by measuring the perimeter of the window that you want to add the screen to. To do this, you'll need a measuring tape (a flexible one may work the best). Then measure out the corresponding amount of heavy gauge wire, add approximately 4 to 5 inches to ensure you have enough to make the frame for the screen. Using heavy duty wire cutters, cut the wire at the desired point.
Make the Frame
Now that we have the right amount of wire to make the frame, begin by bending the wire into the shape of the window. When finished, there will be an overlap of wire. Where the overlap occurs, we will make 180 degree bends and join the two ends then cut off the excess. After the excess is cut off, I used electrical tape to wrap the union to ensure that it won't scratch the vehicle.
Measure the Screen
Next, using the longest length and longest height measurements, add about an inch or two on each dimension to fold over later, use a pair of tin snips or a window screen cutter, cut out a piece of window screen to cover the frame.
Add the Screen to the Frame
Lay out the screen and then lay the frame on top of it. Begin folding the screen around the frame and using a stapler (I used a standard household stapler) staple the screen together to keep it from unfolding.
Finished Window Screen
Now that we have finished placing the screen over the frame, we are ready to roll down the window and pop in the screen. Mine fits right in the groove where the window normally goes. It should fit fairly snug so to keep bugs out and let air move freely.
