BMW R12000R/RS Pannier Wall Mounts

I made some wall mounts so that you can keep your expensive panniers off the ground for storage. These should fit the BMW MOTORRAD R1200R and R1200RS pannier mounting system.

Supplies

You will need access to a 3D printer or contact me and I'll print you some for a small fee (UK Only).

  1. 4 OFF HelmetPlugV3 (Attached)
  2. 4 OFF HelmetBracket (Attached)
  3. 2 OFF Standard Copper Plumbing Pipe (OD 15mm) cut to minimum 180mm (lower support)
  4. 2 OFF Standard Copper Plumbing Pipe (OD 15mm) cut to exactly 80mm (upper peg)
  5. Some good epoxy adhesive
  6. 6 OFF screws (4x30mm)
  7. 6 OFF Wall plugs (5x24mm)

You will probably also find the following tools useful:

  • Hammer
  • Power drill
  • Masonry drill bit (if drilling into wall... 6mm)
  • Mating drill bit for screw (mine was PZ2)

Print Files

On your 3D printer, you will need to print 4 of each of the attached files, so you should have 8 3D printed files in total, they are pretty small so shouldn't take too long or use that much filament.

Assemble the Lower Holder

BracketAssembly.jpg

Insert the 180mm minimum copper pipe into the HelmetBracket holders on either side so they are flush. Glue them in place with epoxy.

Insert One Helmet Plug

Insert one helmet plug into the 80mm pipe sections and glue with epoxy.

Mount the Fixture to the Wall

This part is probably the step that needs the most care. You need to roughly position the pannier with the assembly loosely fitted and mark your drill locations on the wall. One thing to note is that the pannier ledge is not parallel with the top of the pannier so you will need to mount the lower ledge on an angle as shown.

Then, drill your holes in the wall, insert your plugs and gently screw in all of the fittings. Be careful not to torque your screws down too much because if you do you are likely to crack the 3D printed parts.

Insert the Final Helmet Plug

Insert the last helmet plugs into the 80mm section of pipe and glue. I also slightly crimped over the ends of my pip on both sides to help the adhesives keep the plugs in place.

Wait for Everything to Dry and Enjoy!

Give a good 24hr for your adhesive to cure before you mount your panniers. It is also a good idea to put some loose sheets on the floor for the first few nights you have the panniers mounted in case they drop off, but provided they seem stable after a few uses you can trust the mounts. I have had mine for a few weeks now and not seen any issues.
