BOOST CONVERTER USING COIN CELL

Hey Guys... Here is my new instructable.

Battery cells are used in everyday life as energy sources to power portable electronics.

The main disadvantage of cells is the operating voltage. The typical lithium battery has a normal voltage of 3.7 V but when it drains it goes as low as 2.8V and when its fully charged it goes upto 4.2V which affects normal electronic designs which either work with regulated 3.3V or 5V as operating voltage.

Thus boost converter comes into play which takes variable 2.8V to 4.2V as input voltage and regulates it to constant 3.3V or 5V. In this circuit, we will design a low-cost boost converter that provides a constant 5v regulated output from a CR2032 cell. The maximum output current will be 200ma which is good enough to power most of the microcontrollers and sensors. It can also be used as a power backup.

MATERIAL REQUIRED

● BL8530-5V Booster IC (SOT89)

● 47uH Inductor

● SS14 Diode (SMD)

● 1000uF 16V Tantalum capacitor (SMD)

● Coin Cell Holder

● USB Female Connector

The circuit diagram of the 5V booster circuit is as shown below. The heart of the circuit is BL8530 IC which has an output voltage of 5V. The IC requires only a capacitor, inductor and diode to operate.
