Banana Chipsticks

Banana chipsticks are tasty and crispy deep fried long banana slices..!!
they are simple banana chips made from raw bananas.

banana chipsticks make a perfect tea time snack or any time snack when you want to munch something,while watching a movie or reading a book..!

basically banana chips originate from south India..but is a very popular snack all over India.
I have seasoned the chips with salt,though you can use red chili powder or black pepper powder or your own choice of herbs and spices.

before you start,keep in mind that your fingers will also blacken while peeling and slicing the raw bananas.but thats a small price you have to pay to enjoy these homemade banana chipsticks..!! :D

Ingredients

  • Raw/unripe bananas - 6 (small)
  • turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp + more to sprinkle
  • ice cold water - 2 liters
  • oil for deep frying

you will also need :

  • chip slicer
  • a sharp knife

  1. peel the bananas carefully with a sharp knife.
  2. immediately after peeling put them in iced water
  3. mix in turmeric and salt.
  4. Slice bananas along its length with a chip slicer into water.

  5. Keep for 10 minutes .Then drain and place on a clean tea towel.

  6. Heat the oil.

  7. Fry banana slices in one-layer batches for a minute or two or until crisp.

  8. Repeat until all slices have been fried.

  9. Drain the excess oil by placing the slices on kitchen paper towel.

  10. Once cooled,sprinkle salt and then they can be served or stored.
    To store, place in an airtight container.
