I start out with a half-inch thick piece of exterior grade plywood 26“ x 26“ cut trim as needed to fit around the edge. Bottom trim piece has a lip to support the 24 x 24“ barn quilt then I recessed a magnet using a bit, and a router and glue and nail it all together and top the piece off with a copper drip rail or you could use another piece of wood if you don’t have copper then mount to a 4 x 4 pole I used gorilla glue to glue a piece of steel to the back of the barn quilt, so the magnet can hold it on I start out with a half-inch thick piece of exterior grade plywood 26“ x 26“ cut trim as needed to fit around the edge. Supplies

Table saw or circular saw

1/2" plywood

Wood angle trim

Drill driver

Router and bit to cut a pocket for the magnet

Tape measure

Misc Screws

Brad nailer or Hammer and small nails

Paint

Strip of metal ( I used some old copper flashing I had)

magnet ( I used a 1-1/2" dia.)

Flat steel plate ( any piece of flat metal will work)

Super Glue and wood glue

4x4 treated post

A barn quilt

Measure Out the Plywood and Trim

1) Measure out the size of the base board. I used 1'2" plywood and the barn quilt is 24" x 24" so I cut the base board 26" x 26" to allow for the 1" trim.

2) Measure and cut the trim. I made my own L trim from some scrap pine trim boards.

3) Add a ledge to the bottom of the frame so you can use Barn Quilts that are made from thicker boards.

Recess the Magnet

Use the router to make a recess in the plywood base so the magnet can fit flush. Super glue a piece of flat mettal to the back of the Barn Quilt.

Glue and Nail Everything Together

Paint and Mount

I mounted the Barn Quilt holder to a 4x4 post using deck screws. Don't forget to check for level!

Done!
