Basic Open Plan Tiny Home

In this Blender mini-project, you'll construct a small house and render it using a few basic functions. Very basic before-hand knowledge of Blender is favorable for this, and most things will be done in edit mode using faces and vertex snapping.

Supplies

  1. Blender software, however it cannot be used on mobile.
  2. BlenderKit add-on.

Floor Plan

With a cube of about 0.25m in the z-direction, use extrude (e) and loop-cut (ctrl+r) to create the following pattern. Corner wall segments are 0.5m x 0.5m in size.

Walls

The thin outer walls should be extruded upwards by 2.5m, then extruded again by 0.25m. Leave space for windows, and loop-cut twice at around 3/4ths height of the right segment of the build.

Walls, Windows, Bars

Extrude the right segment of the build by 1.5m, then by 0.25m. Use the sides of the 0.25m segment to extrude into the opposite wall for a roof covering. Extrude by 0.25m on the left side of the build, and repeat the same step for the right segment. Add thin planes (orange selections) in the spaces between the walls. Add window bars, using shift+d (duplicate) and shift+r (replicate previous action) for proportionality.

Glass

You will need to download and activate an add-on called BlenderKit for this step. After you've done it, select all the orange planes as shown in the previous step. Go into the material manager in the side menu, add a material, then search up "EEVEE Glass" in BlenderKit. Drag the result onto one of the orange planes to change their material, and click "assign".

Roof

Extrude the topmost 0.25m segments of the walls outward however you see fit. Add a thin, outermost segment to the roof with either extrude or loop-cut. Select top faces of the thin segment, and click i to inset. Extrude the inset faces however you see fit.

Deck

With a 0.25m sized cube in the z-direction and thinness to your liking, extrude its side faces to be able to extend outwards and halfway inwards the build. Duplicate the beam and move it slightly further in either direction, then use repeat to make a deck spanning across the build. Keep a few beams shorter to add space for the stairs.

Stairs

Add wide blocks of the same z-direction size, and move them around to create stairs. Duplicate and rotate (r) one of the longer beams while in side-view for the stairs to sit on.

Lighting and Render

Add area lights around the windows inside the building, and a sun light pointed toward it. Customize the brightness and color tint of the lighting to your liking, and set up the pieces before rendering.
