What I made here are shelves made of a basketball that was going to be thrown away. These shelves can be hung up on walls and give off a cool effect of a basketball coming out the wall.

As a basketball player I wanted to make something cool for my room which could also serve a purpose, and when my basketball popped, that is when I thought of making shelves out of it so that I can display my shoes, figurines, etc. Now when I look at the wall I can relive the memories of playing and having fun with that ball.

And it turned out pretty cool so if you want to create something easy and interesting stick to find out how!

P.S: This is a great gift for family and friends!

a) Cut your deflated basketball in half with a cutter, cutting along the black line in the middle.

b) Then take one of the halves you just cut and cut it again through the middle.

c) You should be left with two small pieces.

(If you want to make 4 shelves then repeat the process for the other half as well)

Preparing the Parts (part 2)

a) Take one of the small pieces and place one side on the sheet of wood, lining it up to your preference.

b) Take your marker and trace the sheet of wood from the inside of the piece, so you can cut the wooden pieces accurately.

c) Cut the wood according to what you traced.

You should be left with:

4 semi-circles, 2 for each piece.

a) Now that you've got your wooden parts, line one of them on the interior of the basketball piece.

b) With your Nail gun, staple the sides of the ball piece into the wood, continuing to staple the edge of the piece to the wood and hammering the nails down with a hammer to ensure sturdiness.

c) Now line up the second wooden part over the one you just stapled and staple it to the other wooden part and to the basketball.

d) Repeat the process for the other shelf.

The final product should look like the final picture.

Congrats! You just made the shelves, but you are not quite finished.

With a cutter, cut any strings or parts from the ball so that it is leveled with the piece of wood on the side where you will put the things on.

This is optional but I also put varnish on the wood to give it some shine.

-------------------------------

As to hang it, I put two small hangers on each shelf and hardwall plastic hooks on the wall for an easy installation.

But this step is whatever is convenient to you.

Enjoying the Shelves!

Your shelves are done! Great job 😉

Now you have a very cool addition to your room which you made yourself, so be proud of that.

I say that shoes look the best on these shelves but you do you. Anything will look good on these shelves.

Have a good day and thank you for reading my instructable!
