Beautiful, easy to make painting with minimal supplies needed and no skill required!

Supplies

  • dollar store paint
  • canvas
  • surface protection (ie garbage bag)
  • pouring medium (I used ColorPour pouring medium from Walmart)
  • silicone drops
  • cups to mix paint in, stir sticks
  • OPTIONAL: finishing spray or resin

Prep Colors

I recommend looking at a color wheel to decide which colors to use as the most aesthetic paintings will usually have either complimentary, analogous or monochromatic colors in them. Mix 2 parts paint to one part pouring medium. for an 18x24 inch canvas I used approximately 3oz of each color (5 total). You want a lot of paint so it spreads easily when poured. After the pouring medium is mixed in really well, add 2-3 drops of silicone to each color to create "cells" within the paint when it's poured.

Add to Main Cup

Take each color and add in a random order varying amounts to a main cup, until all the paint from each color is in the cup.

POUR!

Put canvas upside down onto main cup (note in this instructable I am reusing a canvas I previously painted purple and teal. This doesn't matter because the whole canvas will be covered in the paint you pour onto it). Holding the cup and canvas together, flip the canvas right side up and put down on a surface. Slowly lift the upside-down cup up off the canvas so that the colors pour out. Gently tilt the canvas in all directions to spread the paint and get the colors where you want them to be.

Finishing

Leave elevated (mine is still sitting on a small box) for at least 24 hours to completely dry. Once dry, either display as is, or add a finishing spray or resin to make it shine. Enjoy!
