Recently I collected honey (yum!) from our bee hives and there is always a lot of beeswax left over so naturally I made something out of it!

Collect Beeswax and Other Items

items needed

  1. beeswax (obviously)
  2. a metal container(make sure it is almost the exact size of the pot)
  3. wick
  4. stovetop
  5. pot of water
  6. drill
  7. drill bit (a little bit bigger than the size of your wick)
  8. rubber glove
  9. the bottom of a butter container

Melt Beeswax

Put the beeswax (while in the metal container) into the pot of water, make sure the water reaches about half way up the container, and boil it on the stove. If everything goes right you should start to see melted wax.

Purify Beeswax

If you are using pure beeswax (right out of the hive) your wax will have impurities so use a fork to get the impurities out.

Harden and Collect Wax

Take your beeswax out of the water and either let it sit out overnight or put it in the freezer to harden. (I prefer the latter)

Next pry the container away and get the piece of wax (it's only on the top) the rest is some kind of honey substance.

Melt and Pour

Melt the pieces of wax completely and pour it into the glove. (It is extremely hot so wear hand protection!)

Tip: hold the fingers out in the direction while under cold water to keep them that way

Peel the Glove Off and Make a Base

Peel off the rubber glove after it has hardened. After that pour the remaining wax into the butter bowl and stick the hand into it.

Add Wicks

Using a drill bit the size of you wicks drill a hole into the fingers. (be careful the break easily and if you break them you have to do it over)

After you do that insert you wicks and trim them.

Light and Enjoy!

Light your candle and enjoy (actually lighting is recommended so the wicks stay in place)
