Bike Headlight and Basket

There's more and more people using bikes as a form of sustainable transportation, like me. But this comes with a catch, though. Not much storage space, and sometimes no headlights.

Supplies

To make this, you'll need:

  • 3D Printer (price variable, I recommend Ender 3)
  • Tinkercad (free software)
  • 3D printer Filament (1kg for $20, but could be included in printer)
  • Flashlight (around $5)

Make Basket Frame

Make cyliners, with each cylinder 1/2 an inch in diameter. make a few cylinders until they measure 12 inches by about 9.8 inches in total. Make them about 7.5 inches tall. (to see inches, click edit grid in the bottom and change units.) Add cylinders of the same dimensions (but change height as needed)

Make Basket Floor

Simply copy and paste one of the longer walls, rotate it 90 degrees, and place it at the bottom of the basket.

Basket Mounting

Make a cube and make it 0.7 inches in height. I made a mounting tube 0.7 inches thick, and 1.77 inches in diameter. Measure your bike's center bar diameter and make the inner diameter of the tube equal to that. I used 40 mm as an example, with 2.5mm thick walls. I wouldn't 3D print this part, rather make it out of wood as PLA will get very flimsy as a structural element.

We could do this the easy way or the hard way. Either tape a flashlight to your handlebar, or you could take the flashlight apart, put it in a waterproof phone case, and 3D print a handlebar mount (which you can find here.). Then, melt the plastic of the case and the mount together with a lighter.

Finished!

Finally, import it into a slicer (depending on your printer's size, you may need to print it in sections). Press print, watch out for spaghetti, mount it and you're done!
