Bike Mudguard From Pvc Blind
I live in Yucatán , where there are only two seasons, heat season and heat season with rain. So a mudguard is a must. Browsing the web I noticed some mudguards were made out of pvc... and I know blind curtains are made out of the same material. So here is my mudguard out of a eyesore, cof!.. Pvc blind
Materials and Tools
scissors
Utility knife
Plastic straps
Iron
Cloth
A coffe cup
Spray paint
And of course, 25" of your favorite blind
That's it!
Flattening Your Pvc
As you can see the blinds I got had this double curvature, so I needed to flatten down.
I used a regular iron on medium-to-high heat.
Iron the pvc covering it with a thick fabric. You can use the iron safely, it will not burn the pvc, so take your time and flattendown your blind.
But be careful! Plastic will get very hot.
Making the Curvatures
This step comes in two parts
1 Main curvature
Heat the pvc and when it softens hold it with both hands. let gravity do the bending,( I had a fan to cool The plastic faster), when it cools it will keep the shape.
2 End curvature
Heat each end, about 3" from the edge, and shape it with a coffe cup, be careful, plastic will get very hot to the touch.
Paint It!
... Or not, it's your call...
I spray painted it, and becouse of the texture and the warp I made sure I painted it from all angles to cover it completly
Installation
I guess every bike has diferente configuration, so you have to decide how to attach your mudguard to your bike. For me it was simple and a single plastic strap was enough.
