Binder Clip Wasps

20221121_161123.jpg

The Binder Clip Wasp, an artificial specimen of wasp that anyone can make. It packs quite a sting, and are around 40 cents per piece. How they work, is when you throw them, the clip can stay on, but when the wooden clothespin hits something, suddenly, the binder clip is knocked off, allowing the spring to snap closed, and pinch your target!

Or in simple terms, they are throwable mousetraps, that are way more portable and cheap than a mousetrap! They make for a perfect hidden weapon, to whip up and assemble in a pinch, and ward off oblivious enemies.

Supplies

The only materials you need is one 19mm paperclip, and one large wooden clothespin. I didn't test plastic ones, but you can.

The Only One

Simply clip the binder clip down onto the end that your fingers normally pinch. Horizontally or vertically, they will both function the same.

Throw Them!

Now that you have made your first specimen, it's time to test them. Simply throw them. Your throw should be like throwing a paper airplane. They work best if the gap between the pinching end is horizontal, but you can always try vertical.

Revision

Since every binder clip and clothespin in different, you will need to revise. Simply repeat step 1-2 until you find the right balance, and by that I mean the balance that triggers upon impact, but is still stable. Your throws should look like this:

Precaution

The wasps are designed to be thrown at friends, but please note that you can't just freely throw them at everyone, and I am not responsible for any injuries caused this way. Always make sure that a wasp war has every participant willingly participating.

Other than that, don't aim at the face even if it would be comical to have a clothespin on a friend's nose.

Where the True Fun Begins

So you made some wasps, but what about a wasp NEST? These small-scale explosives will send shrapnel EVERYWHERE!

There are two ways to do this:

The simple way (Easy to make, but unstable)

The complex way (Hard to make, but maintains the original shape)

The simple way simply involves sliding another wasp's binder clip prongs into another wasp's clipped down area.

The complex way is clipping a wasp to another wasp's prongs.

And did I mention that you can stack these wasp nests infinitely? The only limits are your skill and patience.

Disclaimer: Only horizontal wasps will work for this step

Throwing Your Nest Away

There is no way to throw the nest, so here is my way. First, you grab the binder clips with your pointer and thumb. Then, you aim at your enemy. Finally, just throw it like a regular basketball.

There are unlimited ways to throw it, so just throw it how it feels most natural.

There is also no need for revision on this one, as the nests are almost guaranteed to explode upon contact due to the additional load.

Enjoy!
