Black Bird Pie
I got this idea from my mother in law a couple a Christmasssssssess ago in Ireland. She set some wheat seeds in some bacon lard and served it out on the back lawn on a dinner plate. The birds really liked it until the neighbourhood stray corgy dog wandered in and stole it as we watched. He started to lick it and she yelled at him (I named him Mustard). He grabbed it in his mouth, did a horsey kick like the Lone Ranger's faithful steed Silver then ran off with it. Over the next couple of days, she arranged for the dog catcher to come for him.
Anyway, this is a great way to make a hanging (so the dogs/squirrels don't get it) bird feeder. Pie for birds!

Melt Lard
Melt the lard in a pan or pot (a byproduct of this is that it seasons your cast iron pan nicely).
Seeds
Add the seeds and stir.
Bring in Your Thingy and String
Assemble your thingy. I use a knot! The thingy is to keep the shoelace at the botton of the glass/can.
A Quick Pint
Preheat the pint glass in hot water.
Add a couple of spoons for the thingy to sit on.
Fill the rest of the way.
Drap the shoelace in such a way so it does not rest on the edge of the container.
Pop it into the fridge

Cool It!
Let the fine juices of the lamb congeal into a mass.
Once it is cool remove the seed pie from the glass/tin. Run it under hot water for a few seconds and it should pull right out.
Hang from tree and feed those starving birds.
