Pake: (noun)
1. A delicious pie baked inside of a delicious cake resulting in a delicious, decadent over the top dessert.

This is the Turducken of desserts. I was inspired by a friend who made a Cherpumplle, a cherry pie, pumpkin pie, and apple pie each baked in a cake, stacked together and frosted as one extreme dessert. A genius idea, but I wanted to start with something a little simpler. Here is my Black Forest Pake, or Cherry Chocolate pie cake.

You will need:

One Chocolate Cake Mix
water, oil and eggs
One Frozen cherry pie
Vanilla Frosting

Sure you can make your pie and or cake recipe from scratch, but this was easier. You could also use chocolate frosting, but I like vanilla.
Feel free to use this technique for making any sort of pie in cake combo.

Cook the Pie

First you need to cook the pie. Mine said to put frozen pie on a cookie sheet and bake for 1 hour.  You could buy an already baked pie,  or make one from scratch, but this pie was on sale.

Just make sure your pie isn't too big. You need to fit it into your cake pan later.

Make the Cake Batter

Follow the directions on the box to make the batter for your cake.

Assemble and Bake the Pake

Pour a little batter into your greased cake pan. Enough to cover the bottom of the pan about 1/4" deep. I am using a 9" cake pan.

Now carefully take your pie out of the pie pan, and plop it into the cake pan. (Make sure your pie is cool. You don't want to burn yourself on cherry pie filling.)  I put my pie in right side up, but I would reccomend putting it in upside down. I think it would be easier to do, and leaves more room for pouring the batter on top.

Now pour some more batter on top. DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH! I did, and it went over the side and burnt on the bottom of the over. Leave at least 1/2" from the top of the pan.

Take your extra batter, and save it for later in the fridge, or make a second layer, or a second pake. I used a pan of star cupcakes that made a nice decoration on top.

Put it in the oven, and follow the directions on the box for baking.

Cool and Frost.

When the pake is done, take it out and test it. The top should spring back a little when you touch it.
Let it cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes. Then cool on a rack until it's totally cool to the touch.
Frost it.  I put little star cupcakes on top, and then sprinkled the top with powdered sugar.

Enjoy!

Now for the best part. Serve it up. You can tell your friends what it is, or let the filling be a tasty suprise.  It is very very yummy. Similiar to black forest cake, but with a yummy buttery pie crust inside.

Enjoy!
