Hot air balloons are engineering marvels which do not fail to surprise anyone from children to adults, while simply working on one of the most basic natural phenomenon in the world of science - that is hot air rises up.

this principle is used to fill up a giant cloth based chamber which closely resembles a balloon which with enough volume of air has the capability to carry up to 6 passenger. i decided to recreate this on a much smaller scale using everyday items.

Supplies

1. hair drier/blow drier

2. big plastic bag

3.clear tape

Getting the Air Out of the Plastic Bag

in order for this to generate lift, the bag needs to be completely empty of air at first. in order to do this flatten the bag and try to get maximum air out of it as possible.

Attach Bag to Blow Drier

carefully open the bag without tearing it and place it over the mouth of the blow drier. the bag is bigger than the mouth so fold the end in the center to form a cylinder around the mouth.

Secure the Bag Onto the Blow Drier

use clear tape to secure the bag in place over the mouth of the blow drier. the tape should be wrapped around the bag only and not on the blow drier since it will prevent easy sliding off before takeoff. tape should be applied such that minimal space is there between mouth and bag to prevent leaks.

Fill Up and First Flight

after securing the bag turn on the blow drier and fill the bag up. after the bag is full lets the blow drier be still on since it takes a while for that air inside to be hot enough to lift.

once you feel that the bag is beginning to rise up you can slide it off from the mouth of the blow drier and watch it aim for the ceiling .
