I am a 31 year old knitting lover! I learned to knit when I was 10 years old. At that time, I only knew how to cast on, bind off and knit in garter stitch, which is the most basic and fundamental stitch for knitting. I stopped after a couple easy scarves, then when I was 29 I picked knitting up again. I have been self taught ever since! Today, I have a small knitting business making and creating my own knitting patterns and selling them online!

One of my favorite stitches to knit is brioche stitch in continental style. I like knitting continental because it is #1 faster and #2 easier, especially for brioche knitting!

The instructions here will create a brioche knit beanie for a Small Adult size head (20”), knit in the round regardless of whether you knit continental or American/English style!

Supplies

Knitting needles: 7 mm (10.75 US) circulars with a 16” cord

8 mm (11 US) circulars with a 16” cord

Yarn: 1 skein Madelinetosh ASAP Merino Wool

Tapestry needle

Measuring tape

1 Stitch Marker

1 pair of Scissors

1 pom pom (optional)

Join in your round and place your stitch marker.

Switch to your 8 mm knitting needles and then begin row 9 (Brioche Row set up)

Row 9(Brioche set up row): * K1, yarn forward + slip next st purlwise * Slip the marker, rep to end of round

Row 10: yarn forward + slip next st purlwise, BrP * Slip the marker, rep to end of round

PS: I originally made this video for another Brioche Knitting tutorial. In the video I say row 7 and odd rows, please disregard this instruction and work this row for your even rows :)

Row 11: BrK, yarn forward + slip next st purlwise * Slip the marker, rep to end of round

PS: As written above, please disregard the even row instructions and continue using this row for your odd rows :)

Repeat rows and 10 + 11 until beanie measures a total of 9.5”

Sewing Together the Top of Beanie

After reaching 9.5” of total length, leave a long tail, about 12", and cut your yarn.

Thread your tapestry needle with your working yarn and slip all your stitches onto the needle and yarn.

Pull the yarn tight and tie a tight knot. This forms the top of your beanie!

Next, turn your beanie inside out - which is actually right side out ;)

Attach Pom Pom

With the thread that is attached to your pom pom, thread your tapestry needle and push it through the top of your beanie.

Open your beanie to the inside and sew through a couple of the stitches and tie a tight knot. Tieing a tight knot will put your pom pom directly on top of your beanie!
