Broad Head Arrow From Spoon

In this project I wanted to see if I could make a broad head arrow from a stainless steel spoon.

Things you will need:

• A stainless steel spoon
• Hack saw
• Drill and metal drill bits
• Small blow torch
• Strong glue
• Spray paint

Using a butane gas powered blowtorch, heat up the spoon and gently flatten with a hammer. This will make the steel brittle but, as this is an arrow head and not a knife, it doesn't matter too much.

Once flat draw out the shape ready for cutting,I filled in the parts I wanted to remove to make it easier to see.

Drill two holes in the spoon to help with cutting the back part of the shape. Then use a hacksaw to shape the spoon as per the outline drawn earlier.

Using a selection of files, build up an edge along the two front sides making sure you build edges top and bottom. Once you are happy with the edges smooth off the arrow head with wet and dry sandpaper.

I have used an aluminium arrow in this example which has a screw in practice head. Remove the head and place firmly in a vice so you could cut a notch down the center with a hack saw. This is where the broad head will eventually sit.

Remove the broad head from the spoon but cutting it off straight about 5 cm below the back V section.

Fill the gap in the practice arrow head with strong metal glue and slide the broad head into place.

Once dry I sprayed the whole head black to make it match and then used a knife sharpener to get the edge back.

Screw the broad head into the arrow to complete.
