Brown Sugar and Spice Cookies

Make delicious spice cookies for your Christmas holidays. Share with friends and family, or enjoy yourself. 

Prep time should take about 20 minutes.
Bake time should take 7-9 minutes.
Makes about 36 cookies.

Oven

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Ingredients

1/3 cup margarine or butter, softened
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup whole wheat flour

Cookie topper mix:
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Microplane
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons
Cookie Sheet
Fork

Mix Ingredients

Mix in Kitchen Aid:
Brown sugar
Granulated sugar
Cinnamon
Ginger
Nutmeg
Baking powder
Butter

Mix until combined.

Egg and Vanilla

Add:
Egg
Vanilla

Mix until combined.

Flour

Add:
All-purpose flour
Whole wheat flour

Mix until combined. (May need to stir with spatula). 

Topping

Combine cinnamon and sugar.

Shaping

Shape dough into 1 inch balls.

Placing

Place balls 2 inches apart on UNGREASED cookie sheet.

Flattening

Flatten each ball with the tines of a fork in a crisscross pattern.

Sprinkling

Sprinkle cookies with sugar-cinnamon mixture.

Double-checking

Make sure oven has reached 350 degrees.

Baking

Place in oven.
Bake 7-9 minutes.

Cooling

Once removed from the oven, cool on cookie sheet or cookie rack for about 1 minute.
