Bucket Fly Zapper

Pests are always a menace for us. We know that controlling pests is not an easy task. But when we find the weakness of insects we can easily control it. Their weakness is 'Positive Phototaxis' (ie, bodily movement of insects towards light). Here I constructed this instructable based on that idea - 'many flying insects are attracted towards Light!'

I here changed a bucket into a fly swatter with light. When insects attracted towards the light which I placed inside the bucket, they will die by the high voltage mesh when it crosses through it.

Components and Tools Needed:

Bucket
Current conducting Nets (2)
Bulb
Hacksaw blade
Stepup Transformer
154nf capacitor
Resistors (32M, 3k, 1.2k, 680 ohm)
LED light
3v battery
D1616 transistor
Insulation tape

Starting With Circuit

Make the circuit as shown in the circuit diagram. And solder it.

Connecting 3v Battery

Here I have used a 3volt CR2025 battery. Now when you switch on the circuit the terminals we connected at the end of the circuit will cause high voltage at least nearly 400v. So pls be cautious.

when we switch on the circuit the LED will glow.

Working With Bucket

Cut the bucket at two places in order to insert the net inside it. I here used thread to mark and cut perfectly. The distance between two cuts should not be so close and it should not be so far. 5mm - 1cm distance might be good.

Fitting Light

Also make a hole at the centre of the bucket in order to place a bulb.

Then connect the bulb at that hole.

Inserting Meshes

Now insert two meshes through the cuts.

Connecting Circuit With Bucket

Now connect the circuit with the meshes. Connect the positive terminal of the circuit with inside mesh. And connect the negative terminal with outside mesh.

I used Sellotape in order to avoid short-circuit.

Testing

Now we can check whether it works good or not. Touch both meshes simultaneously with a screwdriver, if it sparks it is working good.

Final Step

Connect the bulb with the Power supply.

It's Ready Now!

Test once again And just forget about insect menace. Insects automatically fly towards our light and will die.

I hacked my day;-)
