Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
7 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into thin slices
3/4 cup cold buttermilk
2 tablespoons buttermilk for brushing
Step 1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C)

line a baking sheet with parchment paper

In a large bowl add flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Then whisk until completely mixed.

take the thin slices of butter and spread them out in the flour mixture. Then take a pastry blender or fork and press down on the butter until the mixture looks like crumbs.

make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in 3/4 cup butter milk and mix until combined
Step 6

put dough onto a floured work space and form a rectangle
Step 7

fold the rectangle into thirds and then flatten it in to another rectangle and repeat this process 2 more times.
Step 8

roll out the dough on a floured surface about 1/2 a inch thick
Step 9

cut out biscuits using a 2 1/2 inch round biscuit cutter.
Step 10

Put the biscuits on the baking sheet . Using your thumb make an indent at the top of each biscuit
Step 11

brush the top of each biscuits with 2 tablespoons of buttermilk
Step 12

bake in oven until browned, 12-15 minutes
Step 13 (optional)

cut the biscuits in half and add a thin slice of butter on the bottom and put the top back on the biscuit.
