Butterscotch Dumplings
This recipe will teach you how to make a chewy, gooey dessert that is perfect for a brisk night. Anyone can make these delicious dumplings, but some experience in the kitchen is always beneficial. Children under twelve should have an adult present when making these. Enjoy!

Ingredients and Materials
Sauce
1 cup granulated white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 tablespoons of butter or margarine
Dumplings
1 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 beaten egg
4 tablespoons milk
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
Vanilla ice cream (optional)
* A 9x13 baking dish and mixing bowl is also required
Preheat the Oven to 350 Degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine Sugars, Margarine and Vanilla
In a 9 x 13 baking dish combine
1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of brown sugar
4 tablespoons of butter or margarine
2 teaspoons of vanilla. Mix.
Pour Water
Pour 2 cups of hot water (from the tap) over sugar mixture. The image above is what the sauce should look like.
Start Dumplings in Separate Mixing Bowl
Combine the following in a mixing bowl
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 tablespoon of white sugar
1/4 teaspoon of salt.
Add Beaten Egg
Beat the egg with a fork.
Add the egg to the mixed dry ingredients
Add Milk and Butter
Add 4 tablespoons of milk and 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine to the mixed ingredients
Stir Until a Sticky Dough Forms
Drop Dough Into the Sauce
Using two spoons, drop 1 inch balls of dough into the butterscotch sauce.
Place in Oven
Place in the oven for 25-28 minutes. They will be almost finished when you can smell a waft of butterscotch cascade through your kitchen.
Remove From Oven
The dumplings will be done when they are a golden brown. *Caution - the pan will be extremely hot! Remove from oven with oven mitts and let cool for 5-7 minutes before serving. Top with vanilla ice cream (optional) and serve.
