CD Player From an Old Power Supply and CDROM Drive

Ever wonder what to do with that old computer down in your basement that doesn't really work, but you don't want to throw it away? Yeah me too. So i threw this CD player together with a few of the computers components. 

Things you will need:
An old(or new) power supply
A CDRom drive
Headphones or speakers

Power supply's need to receive a signal from a motherboard in order to turn on, but we don't have, or want to get a motherboard just to turn this darn thing on! So we will trick it into thinking the motherboard is telling it to turn on. We do this by inserting a paper clip, or some wiring into what we will call "The Communication Cable". There will be a series of holes in the connecter for this cable with various wires coming out the bottom. What we need to do is insert the paper clip or other wiring into the hole the green cable comes up to, and any hole a black cable comes up to.  (on a side notice, in the photo the power supply has been opened. i did this to clean the fan but i would not advise it due to shocking risk.) 

Now we will connect everything together. The Basic Concept we will be working off of is shown in the photos. Plug one of the power cables from the power supply into the CDROM drive, then plug in your headphones. To top it all off, plug in the power-supply. If you have it correctly hot-wirred with the paper clip it should start right up. just press play and listen away! 

Now its up to you as to where you want to go with this project. as you can see here, i have plugged it into the MP3 jack on my guitar amp. I also added a light-switch onto it in place of the paper-clip, and i'm thinking about making a case for it. Enjoy!
