CQC Tutorial

mgscqc.jpg
Well they teach this to you in the military and I always thought it was cooler than some other means of melee hand to hand combat. So if you want to see the basics of it, please read the rest of this Instructable. And I would appreciate some feedback of what you think. _

A lot of the public saw some of the CQC in the video game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, where if you wanted to be a silent killer without guns or something. Well that is kind of what it really is.

Forewarnings and Information

Because this is a more physical thing not like building something cool like the rest the only material you will need is yourself.

If your an expert go ahead and correct me because I am always getting negative feedback from someone no matter what I do.

Anyway, CQC is a little more fair than other styles of martial arts in that you don't have top be as fit as some of the others but you have to be able to think quickly, and move. Quick reflexes are also nice to have. _

CQC is/was designed to combat all other forms of combat, even if you are in a hostage situation. Now, I was taught by my uncle and in high school my ROTC instuctor taught me even more.
Now I am going to try and show the people some of the basics.

But be warned don't try and think you are some kung fu king because you know the basics of this style. And I hope you won't ever end up in a situation where you will need this.
Also I am only showing the barebones of the style not everything.

And ALWAYS remember one of the very first rules of this: DON'T ABUSE YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!!

And for all of you that didn't know, CQC means Close Quarters Combat. _

What Is CQC?

The term "CQC" stands for "Close Quarter Combat" and is used to describe an up-close military hand-to-hand fighting system. Originally a combination of martial arts and short-range weapon play (such as knives, batons and firearms),the basis of CQC was devised in Asia but now, is used to describe a wide range
of mixed martial arts commonly implemented into military training used in different countries throughout the world. CQC is also known as "Trench Warfare" as the up-close fighting system was suitable for tight environments such as
military trenches.

Originally taught by the Shanghai Municipal Police Force as a self-defense technique for their law enforcement officers, the idea of CQC was to approach and combat your opponent with confidence at a very close range which would restrict the amount of "attack space" the hostile individual had. As a
result, the opponent would in a way, be caught off guard and his ability to counter-attack at full strength and potential would be impeded. This would greatly assist the police officers in disarming and restraining an attacker while their optional baton and sidearm would provide self-protection and
lethal stopping power if necessary.

CQC is a military teaching with extremely lethal techniques which is why it's hard to find a place - outside of a military or police institution - that would know or even teach CQC to anybody. That's why I'm am sticking to the basics.

The Basics

CQC weapons are usually only a knife and a pistol, like a 9MM or something simular.

Your basic stance is crouched down with your domininant had open and in fron of your other, keep your fingers loose for both hands and keep your back straight, but it's alright if your hunched a little bit, and keep your head forward.

I'll use my brother as an example.

CQC counters everything your opponent does. Like using their strength and weight against them, and to keep a fluid-like movement going, that's the key to shifting weight, it's all in the physics.

Even though CQC was really meant for situations where weapons weren't handy, CQC has stance for the weapons that work well with it.

There are a small number of weapons that work well such as a combat knife, which can be substituted with various other short melee objects like batons and things of that nature. And small firearms like light pistols, like the 9mm or Mk 22.

Simple Throws

As you have read, CQC is for "unfair" situations, and so obviously manuevers to put your opponent down are necessary in order to disable them.

One of the most basic throws is a hand counter takedown, it is used to counter a punch. As your opponent punches at you, grab their fist with your opposite arm and push your shoulder forward to use as leverage and fling them to the ground. I apologize if I didn't explain that correctly.

The last throw I'm going to describe is an armed opponent takedown, but instead of explaining it I put a picture of an expert doing it on a target.

I want you to take caution when doing this. I am not saying go beat people up, I am using this to show people who are intersted to see what it is.

Fin~

This is the end of my tutorial, and I want to say it was pretty fun, but I will state my warning again.

You CAN get hurt by doing this, if you do it wrong so I say be very careful if you do decide to try any of this and don't get mad at me when you fail. I took some of my time and effort to do this. So I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did!
