Cabasa DIY
A Cabasa is a percussion instrument. The cabasa of gourd was originally of African origin. The African original version of the cabasa is called, agbe, and is constructed from dried oval- or pear-shaped gourds with beads strung on the outer surface. There are many versions of this instrument, particularly in Latin music. Cabaça is used in Latin American Dance. The cabaça is a natural or synthetic round or pear-shaped gourd covered with a network of beads and finishing in a single handle. This is compared to the metal version used in Latin Jazz music.
Supplies
- 1 bottle gourd or a tin can
- a resistent thread
- different beads
Step 1
Measure same length threads and make a knot at one end.
Step 2
Thread the beads on the threads and alternate these with the knots, so as to create kind of a net.
Step 3
When you reach the widest point of your bottle gourd with the net start making the net tighter, so that it stays close to the "fruit". Finisch the beeding up, with some really tight knots and that's it! Your Cabasa is ready to be used!
