How to make a realistic heart using red velvet cake and fondant
Gather Your Ingredients and Supplies
Red-Velvet Cake:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp cocoa
4 tbsp red food coloring
1/2 tsp coarse sea salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp white vinegar

Decorations:
White fondant
Yellow, orange, brown, red, blue, and black icing colors
Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees F and Spray Two 9-inch Pans With No-stick Spray
Mix Shortening and Sugar
Mix Cocoa and Red Coloring
Add Eggs to Butter and Sugar
Add Cocoa and Red Coloring
Add Salt, Vanilla, and Buttermilk
Mix in Flour
Add Baking Soda and Vinegar
Pour Into Pans and Bake for 30 Min
Knead Orange, Yellow, and Brown Coloring Into Fondant
Keep hands lubricated with no-stick spray or coconut oil
Store in container to keep malleable
Sculpt Fondant to Form Arteries and Veins
Knead in Red, Blue, and Black Coloring Into the Fondant to Make the Smaller Veins
Flatten a Large Piece of Fondant
Cut the Cake Into the Shape of a Heart
I used two layers
Frost and Cover the Heart With Fondant
Cut off any excess then cover the bottom of the heart as well
